| The
term sports massage can often be misconstrued as only being
applicable to sports men and women. It is in fact, a form
of deep tissue massage designed at relieving soft tissues and treating chronic patterns of stress, tension and fatigue that occur through occupatioanal, recreational or sporting activities.
Sports and Remedial Massage reduces the heart rate and blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, reduces muscle tension, improves flexibility, and relieves pain.
Sports and Remedial Massage can also include pre-event, post-event and maintenance techniques that promote greater endurance and performance, lessening chances of injury and reduce recovery time.
Conditions which benefit from a Sports and Remedial treatment include:
- Chronic muscle pain
- Limited mobility
- Recovery from injuries (e.g. sports injury, whiplash, falls)
- Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
- Postural problems
- Ostearthritis pain
- Muscle tension or spasm
Due
to the skills of the sports massage practitioner, massage
can be adapted to the individual: focusing on one particular
area or a more holistic general body approach
